A Taoist Joke

After about a week of reading up on esthetics, the history of Chinese landscape paintings, commentaries on such paintings by various Chinese art writers and on Taoism, I gave a talk last night on Taoist aesthetics. Time to relax and for joking. The Taoists are very fond of moving back in time, back to the very origin of life and of the idea of "one" or unity  eg. Laotzu said in chapter 10 "載營魄抱一,能無離乎?專氣致柔, 能嬰兒乎?." If our spirit hold on to one, can we go astray? If we concentrate on being soft, can we not become a baby?") and in chapter 39, he says, "萬物得一以生" ("Everything stays alive when they have unity" . Since I intend to stay alive, you'll forgive me if I only write one joke this week.  It's a joke on Taoism which I managed to find on the internet. Here it goes.

I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should start out dead and
get it out of the way. Then, you wake up in an old age home feeling
better every day. You get kicked out for being too healthy; go collect
your pension. Then when you start work, you get a gold watch on your
first day. You work 40 years until you're young enough to enjoy your
retirement. You drink alcohol, you party, you're generally promiscuous and you get ready for High School. You go to primary school, you become a
kid , you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a baby, and then...

you spend your last 9 months floating peacefully in luxury, in spa-like
conditions: central heating, room service on tap, larger quarters every
day, and then, you finish off as an orgasm!

Have a nice weekend! I certain intend to have one!

  1. All the way back to the origin of the universe, and then the retrogression of God Himself. ^o^

[版主回覆11/29/2011 08:34:53]As you like it, Peter. It's more or less the same as choosing to call half full, half empty and vice versa!
[Peter回覆11/26/2011 23:58:16]I would rather say "ends where all starts."
[版主回覆11/26/2011 23:05:18]That's the principal advice of the Taoists: start where all begins!
