The Pearls of Nature

It is often thought that photographs are only for sunny days and presumably either early in the morning or close to sunset, when the lights are soft and the shadows long. But I discovered today that rainy days too may also have their own peculiar charm.

Some leaves in the rain. So clean, so fresh.

Some wet leaves. I love the different shades of green.

Raindrops gathering at the tips of some bamboo leaves. So graceful.

The shiny surface of leaves can also reflect light which

adds a sheen to the surface of some leaves that make them look so fresh. If the water drips down onto a surface with delicate fibres, it curls up into tiny pearl-like beads that cling on so precariously on to the surface and upon the slightest breezelets, would slide down and disappear.

Tiny droplets of water collecting on pine needles may look like powders

A close up of water drops on pine needles.

More water droplets on pine needles.

Water drops on cassia leaves.

Water droplets on some young leaves.

A single drop of water

Some dripping water.

Water collecting on some yellowing leaves. I like the browns, the yellows against the background of greens.

Beads of water collecting on the underside of some thread like branches like the daylight version of those flickering LED lights which one finds in urban trees at night.

Water collecting on the a wire fence.

Beads collecting on fan-like leaves.

Pearls like beads

Tiny powdery beads on some densely packed small leaves

Beads collecting on blades of grass.

Strings of beads collecting on the surface and underside a metallic tube.

Water beads collecting on a hibiscus.

  4. The rain beads hanging on the surface, at the rim of the leaves demostrate the cohesive force in between water and the leaves. This force is spreaded uniformly and evenly and like what you've said it's the beauty of nature. Great shots!
[版主回覆01/16/2012 09:03:38]Yes, it's the surface tension which keep the pearly bead hanging there. But whatever may have been their physical cause, they look beautiful under the diffused light of a rainy day because they curved surface of the water drops help to concentrate whatever light there may be so that they sparkle with beauty, the beauty of Nature herself.

    花了不少時間與心思拍攝吧。^_^
[版主回覆01/16/2012 09:28:27]Thank you for your undeserved praise. If there's any beauty in the photos, they belong to Nature.
Taking photos in light rain is not always easy. I lost not only my time, I lost some batteries and my camera case with them! But then, I must accept that there's always a price to be paid for everything. I see no cause in thinking that taking photos should be an exception.
