Assembly Painting 2006-2007 oil and acrylic on linen by Ian McKever who says: "The edge between the limits of my own body and the space immediately inside and outside and the fact that these things are fixed is the only point I know from which to begin...It's as I am trying sense an image that is on the other side of abstraction and moving away from the abstract rather than towards it. I try to find a point where the prototype of that post-abstract figuration can be sensed lurking, ghosting, where it's suggesting a figurative edge, on edge of recognition"

Virgil 2007, oil and acrylic on cotton same who artist who explains, "I look for structures that reflect my own presence and understanding of the world. I am not trying to formulate or organize patterns. I am trying to instinctive sense structures, their rhythm and pace. Suggest time which is felt through eh sense and the intellect."

Virgil 2007, same artist who continues: "In painting a painting, one does not set out to paint what one knows, but tried to touch those things which one does not know, perhaps cannot be know. The pure quality of a color. To give a red first and foremost...is to use it well so that the color is not pictured or owned by the image, but is primally itself.Color needs to be at a distance in order to sing true--to do its job standing apart as first and foremost color. Then it has the possibility to shine"

The Casa Tomada (house taken) of Colombia's Rafael Gómezbarros who's making a reference here to the short story by Argentinian writer Julio Cortázar in which the occupants of a huge mansion is suddenly invaded by elusive presences announced solely by muted sounds who says that unless a country buries its dead, they will always haunt it as ghosts in the attic. Gómezbarros is an installation artist concerned about the fates of millions of hardworking people displaced by both internal and external immigrants to and from Colombia, like ants.
